Bin Collections
Bin collections have a fortnightly pattern.
One week ALL your waste and recycling is collected.
The following week, only food waste is collected.
Willersey bins are collected on Monday from 7:00am onwards.

Any non-recyclable rubbish put out in black bin bags alongside or on top of your grey wheeled bin or beige bag usually will not be collected, except during the two-week Christmas holiday period when additional ‘side waste’ will be collected during your first full collection after Christmas.

Electricity
So your electricity goes off. No matter who you buy your electricity from it is provided by Western Power Distribution. Their emergency number to ring from a landline is 0800 328 1111 or 0800 6783 105 or 105 or from a mobile 0330 123 5008. ( Do make a note of these numbers on paper?!
You would also need a landline phone or mobile which does not require mains power.) If they fail to restore your supply ( in normal weather ) within 18 hours, they are committed to credit you with £108. You can also find out about your power cut by going to Western Power Distribution website and clicking on the Power Cut link but if you have no power??
Call 105 to report or get information about power cuts in our local area. You can also call 105 if you spot damage to electricity power lines and substations that could put you, or someone else, in danger.
(If you are interested our power comes from the substation in Collin Lane. It arrives at the substation on a 66kV high voltage wooden H-frame line which comes across the Vale from Evesham and ultimately from Feckingham. From the substation a 33kV line goes up the escarpment near to the Farncombe Estate to supply Stow on the Wold. Here is a map of the high Voltage lines in our area.) Gas
Willersey is on mains gas so the most likely supplier will be British Gas. The ultimate provider of our gas is Wales & West Utilities.
If you smell gas then dial 0800 111 999 . (High pressure gas comes to Willersey along Collin Lane where a valve reduces it to domestic gas pressure in a green shed near the Pike roundabout.)

In 2016 Wales & West Utilities replaced all the old metal (sometines cracking) gas pipes in Willersey with new long-lasting yellow plastic ones. Work began on 21st March and continue for four weeks. During this time each household will have its gas turned off for a shorter time. More details were provided to each household later. (Communication from the Utilities is not good or timely.) A report in June 2020 reveals 77% of Britons think we live in a wet and rainy country - but the country isn't immune for future challenges to supply enough water. Climate change and a growing population mean rapid changes are needed. A government backed report urges changes in our every day water consumption.
Britons are being urged to take shorter showers and avoid pre-rinsing crocks before loading the dishwasher after fears water demand could soon outstrip supply. The UK could face water shortages by the middle of this century due to climate change, which is caused by drier summers, and a growing population. Many think we have enough water to meet our needs and many engage in high wastage behaviours, such as leaving the taps running. The new report follows one of its driest Mays 2020 on record in the UK, although wet spells later have provided some relief. Despite our reputation for being wet and rainy, The Great British Rain Paradox, highlights how climate change and a growing population are putting strain on UK water resources.
Don't leave taps running - even for just a short while. Take baths less frequently. When you do have a bath, ideally don't fill the tub right to the top. Spend less time in the shower. Keep a small bucket in your shower to collect water, which could be used to water plants. Restrict the use of hoses and particularly sprinklers where water quickly evaporates - they use water equivalent to more than 12 baths an hour. Look at water efficiency when buying household appliances.

Severn Trent's Water alert system will text you to let you know when we see high demand spikes in your local community. We'll turn up our treatment works to full capacity but it takes us 12 hours to treat and pump water to your home. We'll therefore also ask you to pull together as a community and temporarily stop using high usage water devices for short periods.

That will help us make sure there are no low pressure problems for anyone. We'll send you a text to trigger the alert and it will ask you to temporarily stop using things like hoses, sprinklers, jet washers and paddling pools.

You'd be surprised at how water-hungry devices like this are, for example:
Hoses and sprinklers use around 1,000 litres an hour.
Paddling pools hold 400 litres, roughly the same as three people's average daily use.
Jet washers use over 2,000 litres per hour.
We hope not to have to put out alerts very often, but if everyone pulls together for just a few short days, we'll to be able to prevent any issues throughout this unique summer.

The south of England is facing the greatest pressures on public water supplies, which could be worsened by droughts. A water grid has been planned but not implemented, for decades to move water from wetter Northern areas to the South. The water companies are more interested in profit than providing more reservoir capacity.

We are connected to the Broadway telephone exchange - BT code WMBDY and Broadway 6 Cabinet in Worcestershire. This cabinet went live in and December 2016, which means postcodes connected to this cabinet benefit from a speed uplift. For the latest news check this BT website or also the DSL Checker.
As of March 2015, BT installed fibre cables in Willersey in a cabinet near The Pike roundabout. The top half of Willersey is connected to another fibre cabinet in Smallbrook Road.
Fibre cable has now (August 2018) also been installed throughout Willersey by Gigaclear using underground ducting.

    

Following a public meeting on Monday evening 19th June 2023 where upwards of 50 Willersey residents voiced their opposition to the plans, Full Fibre promised that they would listen to the concerns raised.

It's now becoming clear that Full Fibre have no intention of listening to the concerns that residents raised and seem intent on pressing on with this installation regardless. This installation is unnecessary and unwanted as all properties in the village already have access to fibre broadband via underground ducting. Full Fibre are duplicating the service but rather than opting for the sensible underground installation are going to blight the village street scene with outdated wooden poles with no regards to the character of this beautiful Cotswold Village.

If Full Fibre wish to press on with this installation they should revise their proposals and install via underground ducting – an option which would be supported by residents. Unfortunately, as this is classed as permitted development under Government leglisation there are no controls available to Cotswold DC to insist that the plans are withdrawn or modified, we are therefore reliant on goodwill and community spirit from Full Fibre, I hope there is time for them to make the right decision. Broadband poles protest Willersey


For directory enquiries you can avoid sky high charges by either Googling the number you want or dialling 0800 118 3733 for free, but you have to listen to an advert first.

Mobile phone coverage in Willersey can be patchy. Currently the best supplier looks like Vodafone but reception will depend on your location and the model of phone you are using. Some smart phone models will connect through a wifi signal. You can also buy a Sure Signal box which may help Vodafone reception in your house. O2 provides wifi call . Other providers do not yet have this type of facility.

Electricity failure over the weekend of 21st – 22nd November 2016
A manager from Western Power, Mr Dan Roberts, has been in touch with the Parish Council with an explanation for the power failures on Saturday and Sunday. It would appear that the transformer in Pool Orchard developed a fault and will need replacing in the near future. Dan Roberts has said that it will be 12th January at the earliest before they start work so it appears it will not be this side of Christmas. Western Power have put generators in the village hall car park and Pool Orchard to ensure that while the work is being done no further power failure will take place. Work on the transformer was still in the planning stage, but Western Power had assured the Parish council that they will try and complete the work as soon as possible. Anyone who has experienced any damage to equipment and has not already reported it, then contact 0800 6783105 and quote the fault reference number: 157885 - G .
