on August 29th Bank Holiday Monday (2pm to 5pm) and The Village Fete and many, many other separate activities took place in Willersey during the afternoon from 1pm to 5pm. The 2022 Village Fete coincided with the return of the Willersey Horticultural Society Show where the Eric Beadle Cup for the best total exhibits at the Show was awarded to Jane Ewers who achieved the most points in the Show. The Fete included the ever-popular Annual Fun Dog Show. (We have many pictures of the event and they will be published here over the next few days. Please scroll down to see them all.) So that's a wrap on Willersey Fete 2022. We hope that everyone who came had a fantastic time, and will return next year. The Fete went brilliantly - many, many thanks to everyone for making it so good. Thank you in particular to all of our fantastic volunteers and raffle prize donors. We raised £3600 in total - £1100 on the raffle, £700 from the teas in St Peter's Church, and £800 on the Dog Show - the rest was stalls, parking, bouncy slide (kindly sponsored by SAL Electrical Ltd so that we got all of the £300 proceeds) and additional generous donations from stallholders. The Fete was held to raise money for the continuing work on the church roof and other repairs but there has been a shared view that we should make donations to a charity namely £150 to Support Dogs, which provides assistance dogs to people with autism, epilepsy and disabilities, and £150 to Caring Hands in the Vale. The Horticultural Show – held in the Village Hall after a two three year break - attracted a healthy entry across all the various categories with a very high standard achieved. We had a clear winner this year in the tussle for the overall Show Champion who was awarded the Eric Beadle Trophy. In third place was Peter Bond on 39 points, in second place was Mike Barnes on 44 points and on a highly impressive 62 points was Jane Ewers..................many congratulations to Jane. We also held in the Jubilee Room an exhibition of Art and Photography from Moira Huntly, the late Howard Tomblin, Pete Kavanagh, Andrea Bridgeman and Terence Richardson which was very well received by the many visitors. Many thanks to Pete for co-ordinating and arranging this. Overall it was a brilliant day and we raised over £400 which we are putting into our funds to support green space and environmental projects around Willersey in conjunction with the Parish Council. Plus we will also be making a donation to the Village School in support of their “Forest School” Project. Many thanks to the Organising Committee, the Stewards, the Judges and most of all to all of the Entrants whom without their efforts we simply would not have a Show. ![]() The Willersey Fete was even bigger and better than before, with over twice as many stalls and food options, twice the bouncing fun with a bouncy castle in addition to our amazing giant slide, twice the family competitions with the return of the Horticultural Show as well as the Fun Dog Show, and a host of other entertainment including a magician, live bands and our big surprise for 2022 - a flypast by the RAF's last remaining Lancaster Bomber at 14.05! As well as the ever-popular Annual Fun Dog Show, this year's Fete included: Huge raffle with amazing prizes for family days out, meals and more. Over 30 stalls, with food options, including hot dogs and SriLankan food. Great bouncy fun run and amazing giant slide. Teas in the Church and free “Messy church” crafts in St. Peter's. Magic show and live bands. Traditional fete games such as skittles and hook-a-duck. Display of classic cars and vintage tractors. The afternoon also saw the welcome return of the Willersey Horticultural Society Show. A great day out! Willersey Primary School thanks everyone who supported us at the fete. We raised an amazing £500. Thank you again to Auto-Sleepers Ltd for the sponsorship of the bouncy fun run. I would like to say thank you to the Friends of the School team for your hard work on Monday but also to Gina Lowther for helping set up and helping on the bouncy fun run. A big thank you to Fiona (Henry's mum) for baling us out in the afternoon when we were struggling to cope. Thank you to the fete and horticulture show organisers. It was a great event. All funds raised over the weekend will go to the children of Willersey primary school.
